Clothing and Equipment to Bring with You
All band candidates are encouraged to bring the following items to Band Camp. There won't be time for you to make a store run during camp, so read this list carefully and come to camp prepared. Brass and woodwind players must ensure that personal instruments are in good working order if they will be used during camp.
CLOTHING AND PERSONAL ITEMS
- Long solid black pants (no stripes or patterns) to wear with band polo shirt for Exhibition performance and other performances throughout the year.
- Solid black athletic or band shoes to wear with band polo shirt for Exhibition performance.
- Comfortable casual clothing for rehearsal.
- Hat for outdoors.
- Lots of good athletic socks (moisture wicking).
- Good pair of broken in athletic shoes (preferably cross-training or running) for rehearsals.
- Sandals or flip flops for rest periods.
- Sunglasses.
- All current medications.
- Sunblock (SPF 30 or above).
- Sunburn lotion.
- Lip balm.
- Insect repellent.
- Band aids and antibiotic cream.
- Pain medication (Ibuprofen, etc.).
- Laundry soap.
- Cash/card for meals.
- Snack food.
- Watch.
- Alarm clock or a cell phone with an alarm.
- Water bottle labeled with your name.
INSTRUMENT ITEMS
- Instrument.
- Valve oil, key oil, cork grease, slide cream, slide oil, etc.
- Soft cloth or towel (brass and woodwinds).
- Extra reeds (woodwinds).
- Neck strap (saxophones).
- Practice pad (percussion).
- Personal mouthpiece if you are particular about your mouthpiece.
ITEMS FOR UNIFORM CHECK OUT
- Band or color guard shoes (so we can accurately set the pant hem line). Or, a pair of shoes that are similar to the band shoes.
- Wear athletic shorts and a t-shirt to check-out.
- We'll use the band suit bag to transport the uniform items that need alterations to the tailor's shop.
IDENTIFICATION CARDS
- Government issued identification such as a driver's license or a passport.
- University of Nebraska ID (NCard).
- Health and car insurance cards.
RETURNING MEMBERS REMEMBER TO BRING THESE ITEMS
- Band or color guard shoes
- Band polo shirt
- Poncho
- Steel uniform hangers
- Etymotic ear plugs. Replacements for lost ear plugs are at your own expense. You MUST have and wear ear plugs during all rehearsals and performances.
