Band Camp Message from Kappa Kappa Psi

Dear Cornhusker Marching Band Candidates:

Congratulations on your success thus far in making it to the second round of auditions for our marching band! While this is no doubt a time of stress and preparation for you, I want you to know that you will soon be spending time with some of the most dedicated, talented, and kind bandsmen that I’ve had the honor of knowing. We are all eager to share our love for music and performance with you, and watch you carry on our traditions even once our time in the band has ended.

While you are likely focused on joining the Cornhusker Marching Band (and maybe additional ensembles on top of that), I wanted to bring to your attention the presence of Kappa Kappa Psi, another organization full of talented and passionate musicians. Kappa Kappa Psi is a co-ed National Honorary Band Fraternity centered around promoting the welfare of university bands, honoring band members for their achievements, stimulating campus leadership, fostering a close relationship between college bands, and providing a pleasant social experience for all engaged in college band work.

Here at UNL, we are the Epsilon Omega chapter, and we are currently 47 members strong. You do not have to be a music major or in marching band to join. Our chapter consists of people in a wide variety of majors, as well as most instrumental ensembles on campus. Epsilon Omega seeks out members from all of our university’s band ensembles, and we as a chapter strive to serve all the ensembles as well. Throughout the year, we will often organize events such as concert receptions, the Bands Awards Reception, uniform cleanings, social events, and performance set-up for UNL bands and band members.

We know that you have chosen to continue with music beyond secondary school because you are a passionate and driven individual. This is the sort of thing we look for in our potential new members, and I hope that you will consider joining our chapter. You will not only serve the bands, but you will find like-minded people who love music just as much as you, and together you can work to improve and support the university band programs we all love so much. If this sounds interesting to you, you can learn more about our chapter at www.unl.edu/kkpsi. We will be sharing more information about our recruitment process later in the fall semester!

Again, congratulations on making it this far, and we can’t wait to meet you all in August! We hope the rest of your summer is relaxing, and that your second-round audition is successful.
