Colleagues,

As we head toward the final six weeks of classes for the 2016 fall semester, I wanted to quickly update you on our search for the next University of Nebraska-Lincoln executive vice chancellor and chief academic officer.

Over the last few weeks, our campus community met with four finalists for this position. All were well qualified and offered many exceptional attributes, and we are deeply appreciative of their time and interaction with us.

After thoughtful analysis and discussion, however, I have determined that our search has not yet identified the ideal candidate for this position at this important juncture in our university’s history. Therefore, I’ve asked our search advisory committee, made up of 28 individuals from across our university and community and led by Joe Francisco and Sherri Jones, to continue their work in bringing qualified finalists to the campus for consideration.

I have the utmost confidence in our search advisory committee, their recommendations and our process. We are now returning to a point in which the committee must do its work to analyze an additional candidate’s qualifications and fit for the position. If the committee determines this candidate should move forward to finalist stage, we will follow the same protocol we have used for the first four finalists, which will include naming the candidate, providing background and holding a series of public forums and opportunities for interaction and feedback.

I appreciate the committee’s diligence and dedication to a successful search as well as the robust feedback received from the university community thus far.
