July 30, 2024
Dear faculty, staff and students,
As the start of the fall semester approaches, I want to share with you a little of what to expect regarding the Huskers' Friday night home football game with Illinois on Sept. 20.
To allow for our traditional game day activities to occur on a weekday, I have approved an instructional continuity day for Sept. 20. This means that alternative learning plans will be designed by instructors to ensure academic learning continues in a format determined by the instructor for each course on that day.
Instructional Continuity
Developing a rich learning experience occurs inside a physical classroom and beyond. Instructors should build their plan for instructional continuity of learning within their syllabus. Students should check syllabi and communication from instructors about the instructional continuity plan for their courses.
Remote work
Only essential employees should report to work on campus; all other employees should work remotely. Employees should consult with their supervisor to confirm whether they are to work remotely or report to campus. Further guidance, including FAQs, are available here.
Building access
Since classes will not meet in person, most campus offices/facilities on City, East and Innovation campuses will be closed to all activities not connected directly to the game in Memorial Stadium and other critical functions that require in-person working. Most academic buildings will be accessible only by NCard on Sept. 20. University Libraries, International Quilt Museum, Sheldon Museum of Art, University of Nebraska State Museum, and the Nebraska Union, including the University Bookstore, will be open to the public. The College of Law, College of Dentistry, College of Nursing and University Health Center will be open with regular courses/activities occurring. All visitors should go online or call ahead to confirm the hours of other campus venues.
Parking
Employees who have a UNL parking permit and will be working on campus must reserve a space (at no cost) through Parking and Transit Services. Details about this process will be announced via email. All other campus parking will mirror a regular Husker football game day, with the majority available only for donor parking. Residence hall lots will not be affected.
Planning for the Sept. 20 football game is fluid and information regarding parking and other details will be finalized in the coming weeks. Watch for updates in your inbox, at Huskers.com and in Nebraska Today.
The start of a new semester brings with it a sense of excitement and possibility. I look forward to cheering all Huskers on — be it in the classroom, lab or athletic field — as we build on our positive momentum and achieve great things together.
Go Big Red!
