Band Camp Attendance and Registration

Every member of the Cornhusker Marching Band (CMB) must be enrolled as a full-time student at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.000 or greater. NOTE: You must be enrolled in the marching band class and as a full-time student BEFORE you report for band camp.

ATTENDANCE

All candidates must successfully complete the second round audition to become members of the Cornhusker Marching Band. See Band Camp Audition Information for details. See the Band Camp Schedule for a detailed explanation of the schedule and campus report dates.

Illness, injury, family emergency, ROTC, RA or Health Aid Training or other academically based conflicts may qualify for a temporary exemption from rehearsal time during band camp. Other conflicts such as Fraternity and Sorority Rush need to be reconciled by the student. All conflicts during Band Camp or the regular season schedule must be approved in advance by the director. Send an e-mail to Professor Falcone outlining your conflicts with either the band camp schedule or the fall schedule. Include your full name, instrument, the nature of your conflict and all necessary dates.

ELIGIBILITY

All students auditioning for the Cornhusker Marching Band must be admitted to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, enrolled in the marching band class, and enrolled as a full time student (12 credit hours for undergraduate students and 9 hours for graduate students) prior to the beginning of band camp. Registrations are checked beginning in July. All marching band members must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.000 and maintain full-time enrollment status throughout the season.

All band members must complete the CMB Band Camp Form by noon Friday, July 19.

COURSE REGISTRATION

All band members must enroll in the marching band course and pay the one credit hour tuition. A $30.00 special course fee is assessed all band members. This fee will appear on your student account along with the course tuition, and mandatory and optional purchases only if you are on the final roster.

NOTE: Music, charts and announcements are distributed via Canvas for this course. Enroll in the course PRIOR to the start of Band Camp. Only those who are enrolled in the marching band class will be permitted to audition in August. You can easily drop the course if you are not on the final roster.

There are three marching band course numbers:

  • MUDC 348E (Music Majors & Minors for degree requirement only)
  • MUEN 348E (everyone else)
  • MUEN 48E - zero credit (see below)

NOTE: If students register for more than one Glenn Korff School of Music ensemble in a semester, they need only register for one of the ensembles for credit. However, students must enroll in all ensembles in which they participate. You may register for the second ensemble as a zero-credit course. Contact Prof. Falcone for the permission code to enroll in marching band as a zero-credit course. You may not register for marching band as a zero-credit course if you receive a marching band scholarship, or if marching band is your only GKSOM class.

Also, please contact Professor Falcone for approval if you must take a class that overlaps the marching band rehearsal time. Include your full name and section in your email and briefly describe the reason for the class conflict.

COURSE OVERLAPS

Should a member need to leave class early because of an approved course overlap, the following procedure must be followed.

First, try to resolve the conflict by finding another section of the course that doesn't conflict with Marching Band or even taking it in another semester.

If resolving the conflict is impossible (the course is required for your major and is not offered at any other time and/or has to be taken this fall) send an email to Professor Falcone describing the conflict (which days of the week, how much time) so he can determine if it's workable. Please include this information:

1. Your name

2. Your NUID

3. Term of the class (Fall)

4. Class – Subject/Catalog Number and/or class number (4 to 5 digits) of conflicting class (ie. CHEM 401)

We also ask that you take steps to stay in Marching Band class as long as possible before you have to leave.
